Minoxidil – Precautions On Using Minoxidil For Hair Loss

Introduction

Minoxidil has been approved by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) for use by both men and women for controlling hair loss and re-growing hair caused by male or female pattern baldness. it has proven to be very effective at stopping hair loss and in most cases in re-growing hair.

But there are limitations in that not everyone should use it. here are some of the reasons why people should not use Minoxidil.

Precautions On using Minoxidil

Use by Women- Women have not been approved to use the 5% solution of Minoxidil because it could cause asymmetrical hypertrichosis, which is a condition that results in abnormal hair growth. There have been studies conducted that shows the 5% solution is effective in growing hair in women without causing adverse conditions. if you are a woman and want to use the 5% solution, consult with your doctor first. Women are approved to use the 2% solution.

Heart Condition- Minoxidil was first used to help people suffering from severe high blood pressure. because of this, people who have a heart condition should consult a doctor prior to using.

Cause of Hair Loss- There are many reasons that you can lose your hair. Conditions such as stress to certain medicines you are using can cause hair loss. Minoxidil is for use only for people with male or female pattern baldness. Ensure you know the reason of your hair loss before using this drug.

Age - This is not for use by people younger than 18 years of age. This is because men younger than 18 should not have hair loss caused by male pattern baldness.

Other Medications- if you are using other medications on your scalp you should not use Minoxidil. The two medications could interact with each other and cause adverse results.

Scalp Condition- Ensure your scalp is free of infection, not irritated and is not inflamed. Having these conditions could make the condition of your scalp worse.

Use Location- This medicine is designed for use on the scalp only. use on other parts of the body is not recommended. Especially avoid getting it in your eyes. if this drug is accidentally swallowed, you should seek immediate medical help or call Poison Control Center immediately.

Conclusion

If you are clear of all of the above conditions, then Minoxidil has been shown to help both men and women with male and female pattern baldness stop hair loss and re-grow hair.
