Thinning hair causes is a topic that attracts attention from both men and women. when a person starts to see the visual effects of hair loss it is no longer a condition that affects others but one that is having a direct impact on you. To fully understand the causes of thinning hair first we must gain a better understanding of hair.
I could bore you with the specifics but instead I would like to illustrate how hair works with a short story.
*Imagine for a moment that you are a farmer with a field of 100,000 flower bulbs (the average number of hairs on the human scalp) planted. The soil where your plants are located is fertile and there is ample water for your bulbs to grow like crazy. a little time goes by and you have a field of amazingly healthy plants. not an empty or thin spot anywhere to be found. this scenario goes on for another five years but in the seventh years the soil is not quite as fertile as it used to be and the water supply is starting to diminish. so your once fully occupied bulb garden is now starting to thin. then you have the renegade ground squirrel that digs a few more bulbs up. with each passing year your once fully occupied field becomes thinner and thinner. over time you have more bald spots than areas occupied by plants.
This is exactly what happens with hair. what is referred to as hair is only the hair shaft. The root of the hair (bulb) is located below the skins surface and is the so called launching pad for the hair follicle. The root is nourished by the bloodstream to produce new hair. Anything that strangles the root, reduces blood flow, or restricts the body's ability to replace lost hair can be one of the many thinning hair causes.
Among the common causes would be hormones, genetics, autoimmune diseases, localized skin conditions, excessive/rapid weight loss, poor nutrition, disease, poor scalp circulation, stress, chemotherapy, pregnancy, and certain medications.
Most of the above examples will reverse themselves when discontinued with the exception of genetics and certain hair thinning hormones such as DHT. The condition most responsible for thinning hair in both men and women is a genetic, hormone lead condition known as androgenic alopecia (male pattern baldness). some experts suggest that it is responsible for over 90% of all hair loss cases. if you are a man suffering with unrelenting gradual hair loss with balding on the crown, with noticeably more severe thinning on top, chances are androgenic alopecia is the cause.
If you are a woman who is experiencing general thinning over time, without bald spots, chances are androgenic alopecia is the guilty party.
